Number of Times Seen – 1 (10 Jun 2020)
Brief Synopsis – In the Midwest during the 60’s, a young girl befriends a new girl to town who’s influence isn’t necessarily what her parents and their society would expect.
My Take on it – This is yet another film that I came across by accident and was interested in watching due to its great cast.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t work at all and is extremely boring from start to finish.
The characters in the film aren’t developed or explored well enough and that makes it so much more difficult to care about them or what happens to them.
The story moves along at a really slow pace and that hurts things so much because nothing really happens throughout the film.
The film does have a great cast with Malina Akerman, Jordana Spiro, Shea Wigham and Adelaide Clemens who are all quite talented actors in key roles.
Unfortunately tho, these characters all feel a bit too constrained by the script that doesn’t allow for things to play out more interesting.
The one things that this film does manage to accomplish is to transport the viewer back to a time and place that seem much more innocent and pure but they never seem to find a way to help make things more interesting to watch which is quite problematic.
Bottom Line – Really boring film that doesn’t work at all. The characters aren’t explored well enough for us to care about them and thing move along in such a slow paced fashion that it hurts the what they are trying to do here. The film has a great cast including Akerman, Spiro, Wigham and Clemens yet they all feel held back due to the way that this script plays out which is quite unfortunate. The film does succeed in transporting us to a seemingly more innocent time and place yet that isn’t able to make things more interesting to watch which is quite a shame.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Malin Akerman and Adelaide Clemens both worked on Watchmen projects. Akerman starred in the 2009 film adaptation, while Clemens starred in the 2019 mini-series. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
