Brief Synopsis – A young woman discovers she has cancer and must find a way to deal with how it will affect her life going forward.
My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident and immediately was interested in seeing given the fact that it deals with a subject very close to my heart.
My wife was diagnosed two and a half years ago with Breast Cancer and this film was such a personal journey for me to watch because I could relate to so much of what they show here.
This movie is able to capture the feeling of how cancer can affect someone and their close family while also showing how they each cope with things in various ways.
Sarah Chalke is superb in the lead role and is able to make us care so much about her character as she deals with this life changing disease that has taken her by surprise.
This film finds a way to deal with such a deep and heavy subject and look at things from a lighter perspective which helps make things so much more enjoyable to watch especially since it deals with the idea of hope so well.
Many of the scenarios that this film deals with were familiar to me and that helps make things even more memorable because it comes across as being quite realistic throughout.
The added fact that this story is based on a true memoir also helps make it so much more impactful because we know that much of what is depicted here really happened to someone and the idea that people like me who are very familiar with these situations can relate to much of what is shown makes things even more poignant and emotional to experience.
Bottom Line – Amazing film that really is able to capture the feeling of someone dealing with cancer and how those close to them also need to deal with it. Chalke is great in the lead and really makes us care so much about her character. Despite dealing with a very heavy subject, this story manages to find a way to look at things from a lighter side and that helps make it so enjoyable and memorable. The fact that this is based on a memoir of someone who went through this ordeal gives the story much more of an impact throughout. Highly Recommended!
