Number of Times Seen – 1 (11 Jun 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A suburban mother tries to find a newfound friend when she inexplicably disappears one day.
My Take on it – This is a film that I came across and was intrigued by the premise.
It starts off really well and allows us to get to know the characters quite well.
Unfortunately tho, around the midway point, things get derailed a bit and the story fails to be as intriguing to watch.
The idea to have a quick friendship blossom between the two main characters works well and helps establish who they each are and ultimately why they would become so attached due to the intimate way that their friendship is explored.
The stry leaves some nice breadcrumbs along the way to help keep things moving along.
There are some very surprising twists and turns along the way that help keep things very unpredictable.
Unfortunately, they have far too many twists and the story feels overburdened by them all and the way that the story changes directions so much is also this film’s undoing because it makes things even more confusing as the plot unfolds.
Bottom Line – Intriguing idea that starts off well, but turns south around the midway point. The idea of this quick friendship between these two women works well and they allow us to see the intimate ways that their friendship blossoms over a short period of time. The way that they leave us little clues along the way works well also in having the suspenseful nature of the film. They have some nice twists and turns along the way that help the story stay unpredictable but that is also one of the problems with this film because things change so often that it becomes a bit too confusing along the way.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Jessica Sharzer, the movie’s screenwriter, found the character of Emily enjoyable to write because she’s “so fashionable and slick, but it’s also a façade. Intriguingly, both Emily and Stephanie have dark pasts, but they hide them in very different ways…” (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
