Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Jun 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A young childless couple find an alien pod in their field and raise the child within the pod as their own until one day he realizes that he has super-human powers.
My Take on it – This is a film that I knew nothing about and came across it by accident.
The fact that it was a pseudo super hero movie was quite intriguing and I therefore wanted to see how this kind of story can be played out.
The choice to take the overall premise that is familiar to most as the Superman origin story and change the intentions of the “child” is such a fascinating one and they find some very intriguing ways to explore this idea.
One would like to believe that all aliens are as gracious and polite as Kal-el, but they are probably not.
This film gives us a scenario where a young alien orphan begins to learn the truth about his heritage and they take the story into some very dark places that work quite well.
I’m not a fan of horror films in general, but the superhero aspect of it really appealed to me and kept me interested throughout.
Being quite versed in the Superman origin, it was very enjoyable seeing the parallels shown here in this story.
Would be quite interested in seeing where they would take such a story in a sequel because they have so many great possibilities of where to go based on how this story ends.
Bottom Line – Such a great premise because it takes the one commonly used for the original of Superman and add a horror twist because not every alien would act as loyal and pure as Kal-el. This film explores what it would e like for this child to grow up and do evil things. I’m not usually a fan of horror type films but this one appealed to me due to the superhero slant and that helps make it more enjoyable for me to watch especially given the fact that I’m quite familiar with the Superman origin story which his parallels in many ways. Would love to see a sequel to this film that would show where things move along from the point where this story ends. Recommended!
