Close (2019)

“I don’t care what you think about me.” – Zoe Tanner

“I don’t think anything about you.” – Sam Carlson

Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Jun 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A talented female bodyguard is hired to keep the daughter of a millionaire safe after her father dies and her step mother takes over the family business.

My Take on it – This is another film that I came across by accident and knew nothing about before watching it.

The story is quite bland and basically follows the normal arc of action thrillers like this one.

This film has a female action hero and we get to see how a women needs to deal with keeping a young heiress safe from assassins.

The plot itself is quite generic the whole way through and there are far too many aspects of the story that are quite predictable and that hurts things a bit too much.

They do a nice job choreographing the action sequences but besides the female lead switch, they really don’t have anything new or innovative to offer with this story.

Noomi Rapace is quite good in the lead and she is able to keep both her actions and her character’s personality seem quite plausible and realistic.

Unfortunately, none of the characters are developed on more than a superficial level and it’s quite difficult to care about any of them even if the pacing of the action moves along nicely.

Bottom Line – By the numbers action thriller that shows how a female bodyguard would act in a situation where she must keep a young heiress safe.  The plot is far too generic and predictable for its own good and that hurts things too much. The action sequences are nicely choreographed and work despite the fact that they aren’t really able to add anything innovative or fresh to this kind of storyline in addition to the female lead switch. Rapace does a nice job keeping her character and her actions believable but none of the characters are developed well enough for us to really care what happens as long as the action moves things along nicely.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Noomi Rapace performed all her own stunts for this role.  (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
