Bad Company (2002)

“[Jake is watching his twin brother on tape] Man, this is buggin’ me out. I feel like Michael Jackson lookin’ at old album covers.” – Jake Hayes

Number of Times Seen – Twice (25 Oct 2004 and 17 Jun 2020)

Brief Synopsis – The identical twin of a CIA killed on a mission is recruited in order to take his brother’s place in a deal to stop a nuclear warhead from getting into enemy hands.

My Take on it – This is a film that I recall seeing years ago and enjoying it, but was curious to see what I would think about it more than 15 years later.

The story is quite fun to watch unfold and that has much to do with the very surprising kind of chemistry between leads Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins.

The film has a great tone that mixes together both comedic and serious aspects of this story that helps enhance things along the way.

This film utilizes a premise that has been used often but they are still able to find ways to keep things unique and innovative the whole way through.

The film is paced really well and stays interesting and entertaining throughout.

The way that they need to quickly develop these characters is done really well and they somehow make us care so much about them as the story moves along.

Rock, like many other comic actors does a great job when he need to play the serious persona of his character while still staying fresh and fun when he needs to play the comic one too.

This shows how great an actor he can be since he excels in both of these personas.

This is a movie that also allows Hopkins to play a character that we can like even with his hard personality.

Bottom Line – Fun story that works quite well due to the surprisingly great chemistry between Rock and Hopkins.  The film is able to handle a nice mix of serious and comedic tones that helps enhance things along the way. The premise is one that has been used before, but they find unique and innovative ways to keep things moving along at a great pace and staying interesting the whole way through. Rock is able to show his acting talents here because he gets to play both a serious and a comedic character and they both are done realistically. Recommended!
