Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 Jun 2020)
Brief Synopsis – Four friends on a night out on the town accidentally witness a murder which puts them all in grave danger.
My Take on it – This is a film that I recall hearing about when it came out, yet never had any desire to see what it was all about.
The story is quite terrible and fails to work on any level.
The cats is quite talented, yet none of them are given enough to do along the way that would make us care about the characters.
The story itself is subpar and doesn’t find a way to stay interesting at any point along the way.
The characters do dumber and dumber things as things move forward that make their situation even more dangerous and it seems as if they are all doing this deliberately in order to extend this really boring story.
The dialogue is quite silly and there is so little to take seriously in the way that things progress.
Both Tom Cruise and Christian Slater passed on the lead role here (see Trivia Section below) and now I know why.
This film’s overall premise has been done so much better both before and after this one was made and it’s safe to say that anyone missing this one, didn’t really miss much at all.
Bottom Line – Horrendous film that doesn’t work at all. The great cast is wasted by this very subpar story which is a shame. The characters act in very silly ways throughout and that makes their situation more and more dangerous in ways they could never imagine. The dialogue is terrible and doesn’t find a way to help make this story more believable at all. There’s a really good reason that Cruise and Slater passed on this dud (see Trivia Section below). This kind of premise has been done much better both before and after this film was made.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to Variety, Emilio Estevez was far down the list of actors in consideration for the role of Frank Wyatt. The trade paper story explained that the studio’s desperation to quickly cast the lead role also led to Estevez taking a much higher-than-expected payday. Actors who passed included Tom Cruise and Christian Slater. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
