The Golem (2018)

Brief Synopsis – In a small Jewish Village in the middle of Europe, a women is able to conjure a mystical creature who takes on the form of her lost son in order to protect their village from outside plunderers.

My Take on it – As many of you probably already know, I’m not the biggest fan of horror films, but this one deals with a story that has always been dear to my heart.

Having been familiar with the true story of The Real Golem of Prague, I was curious to see how a modern version of the tale would work on screen.

The historical setting of the story also adds to the believability that this story might have truly happened.

The premise and way that they adapt the story works really well especially since they find a way to make things seem more plausible and genuine the whole way through.

The story lends from a mystical storyline and that enhances things so much because one never quite knows where the story will go.

This movie find a way to show how communities could not only survive but thrive when secluded yet when danger lurks around the corner, the people must band together and find a way to stave off that threat.

The choice to make the Golem in the image of a young boy is great because it adds in a personal touch for the characters that makes things even more powerful to watch unfold.

The film has a great cast and they add to the realism of it all.

The story is able to use supernatural and fantasy elements that help the story straddle the horror genre yet still woks well for those us who are not tried and true fans of the genre.

Bottom Line – Great idea that works well because it is presented in a very plausible and genuine way. The way that the story lends from mystical folklore enhances the story to a point where you never really know what will happen. They are able to show how people were able to have thriving communities in secluded places, but when danger lurks around the corner, there is very little one can do in order to avoid it. The cast is quite talented and help make things come across quite realistically despite the way that the story uses supernatural and fantasy elements in order to keep things straddling the horror genre. Recommended!
