This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!
“I’ll hit you so hard they’ll arrest you in El Paso for speeding.” – Nancy Mondragon
Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 Jun 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A mishap causes infighting between local farmers and the corrupt local council.
Bottom Line – Really boring film that doesn’t work well enough. Robert Redford directed this film, but the pacing fails to keep the story more engaging. The characters all feel a bit too superficial and that also hurts things because there really isn’t anyone to root for as the story unfolds in crazy ways. The cast is quiet talented yet none are able to stand out here among the rest. The plot has a few very strange aspects to it that make things even more confusing to try and decipher properly.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In a scene at one of the local Milagro stores where John Heard’s lawyer character is dropping off his newspapers, a woman is shopping for Newman’s Own salad dressing. The store owner tells her, that’s no good, buy something else – an obvious in-joke in which director Robert Redford tweaks his longtime friend and two-time co-star Paul Newman. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
