Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Jun 2020)
Brief Synopsis – DocuDrama that tells the story of how a colonial officer in the British Army rose to be the founding father of America.
My Take on it – This is a film that I was curious to see for a while but it’s 4 and half hour run time kept me away for a while.
As a fan of US History and of US Presidential history in particular I wanted to see what this film was all about.
They do a nice job giving us so much insight into the life of a simple man who was willing and able to take up the call to be its first great leader in the country’s infancy.
The film wisely chooses to mix together documentary footage and interviews with some of the most integral scenes acted out in order to help us get a clearer understanding of who George Washington was and why he was so important to the cause of freedom from England.
Jeff Daniels narrated this film in a very soothing way and allows us to learn so many interesting tidbits and insights into the life of the father of our nation.
The film’s run time is a bit too long and there are some scenes that feel far too dragged out.
The movie tho is still able to give us so much information about the various aspects of Washington’s life including his personal, military and public life.
Bottom Line – Interesting docudrama that allows us to get so much more insight into the mind of the country’s very first leader who took on the call to lead a nation in its infancy. The film’s choice to mix together documentary footage and interviews with actors playing out some of the most important scenes works well in establishing the kind of person Washington was. Daniels narration is soothing to listen to as we learn so many interesting and unknown facts abut the life of the father of our nation. The film’s 4 and half hour run time is a bit too long and there are some scenes that suffer because they feel too drawn out. The movie is able to give us so much information about Washington’s personal, military and public life. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – A hogshead of tobacco, mentioned by Benedict Arnold, would be a measurement of tobacco that when packed into a large wooden barrel would weigh about 1,000 pounds (454 kg). (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
