Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Jul 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A group of teens at separate boarding schools try to find ways to each get onto the other campus to meet up with teens of the opposite sex.
My Take on it – This is an 80’s sex romp film that I somehow missed as a kid during that decade.
Overall, like most films in the genre, it’s quite silly, but they do manage to find a way to have some funny scenes pop up now and again.
The cast of this film is quite impressive especially given its premise and objective.
A very young Matthew Modine plays the lead and it’s intriguing seeing him play such a role like the one he plays here.
He is joined by Phoebe Cates, Fran Ryan, Ray Walston and Sylvia Kristel who all help keep things fun despite the obvious stupidity of it all.
Martin Mull has a great cameo as a drug store clerk and he steals the entire film with this hilarious scene that is so familiar in these kind of movies.
The film’s plot is quite simple and in some ways superfluous since they never made these kind of film in order to give us something unique or powerful but instead has a 90 minute slew of innuendo and sex comments like most of the other films that fit into this genre.
It always amazes (and baffles) me how similar most of the films in this genre are yet, the production companies were always still willing to fork out more money in order to make them.
Bottom Line – Really silly 80’s sex comedy that has its moments along the way. The cast of this film is great and seeing Modine, Cates, Russell, Ryan, Walston and Kristel in these roles is quite fun. Mull has a really funny cameo as a drug store clerk. The plot is superfluous but this isn’t a film made for it’s powerful storyline but rather for its use of innuendo from start to finish.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Debut cinema movie as a choreographer of Paula Abdul who choreographed the women’s aerobic workout. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
