Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Jul 2020)
Brief Synopsis – The Hot Tub guys once again attempt to travel through time in order to solve a murder
My Take on it – This is a movie that I have avoided ever since it came out because I assumed that it would be really too much.
Boy, was I right!
This was a horrendously stupid and pointless film that fails to work on any level.
The story gets crazier and crazier as things move along and that makes it quite unbearable to watch because we want to see it end so much quicker than it does.
The one shining light in this film is the fact that they are constantly making fun of time travel movies and that adds a bit of humor now and then but overall, it constantly falls flat during most of the attempts at humorous scenes.
The fact that the entire cast didn’t return for this sequel is a tell tale sign that something is amiss.
John Cusack was the best thing about the original film, so his absence is quite noticeable while watching this story try and unfold.
He made the smart decision to not appear here tho, because there is only so much that he could have contributed here and ultimately, things would still be terrible.
The science of this film is even crazier than the explanations given in the previous film and that takes away from making this story feel more genuine and plausible.
The story gets far too complicated here and that makes things even more pointless both for the characters and for the audience.
This story tries to compensate for its lack of humor by going far across the line of good taste and that takes so much away from making this enjoyable to watch since it is so stupid from start to finish.
Bottom Line – Horrendous sequel that gets crazier and crazier as the story moves along. The way that they are constantly making fun of time travel stories helps make things humorous every now and again, but overall, it falls completely flat. The fact that only part of the cast returned for this sequel shows that some of them got smarter in the 5 year interval between films. The science is even crazier here and that doesn’t help make things more genuine and believable. The story gets overly complicated and that is a contributing factor to why this is such a waste of time for both the viewer and the cast. They cross the line here far too often and that also takes away from making this enjoyable to watch at all because it’s all so stupid from start to finish.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The movie was originally going to be titled “Hot Tub Time Machine 3” as a joke about the time travel, but the studio would not allow that, claiming it would be too confusing. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
