“The Lord’s gonna smoke his ass!” – Vice Detective Patrick Farrel
Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Jul 2020)
Brief Synopsis – Two vice detective are thwarted again and again by a local mobster, so they decide to harass him with the hopes of finding a way to stop him.
My Take on it – This is a another movie that I knew nothing about before coming across it by accident.
The premise works really well because they are able to show the way that this kind of job takes its toll on dedicated detectives largely because of the frustration they must endure because f the system.
Elliott Gould and Robert Blake are both great in the lead roles and allow us to get a better understanding of the type of work they are tasked with along with the fact that the constant corruption in the system causes them problems in their work.
Their characters aren’t developed well enough thou which is slightly problematic in understanding their motivations as cops.
They have some nice chase scenes that are pretty thrilling to watch unfold and the fact that these characters are ot supermen in all that they do helps make things more realistic to watch unfold.
The story is quite gritty in its portrayal of things and shows how difficult this kind of work could be for detectives with integrity who wish to always try and do the right thing.
Bottom Line – Intriguing premise that works quite well. Gould and Blake are both great in the lead roles and make us get a better understanding as to how corruption can cause problems for good cops. The characters aren’t developed well enough tho and that hurts things a bit as the story moves along. The film has some great chase scenes that are very thrilling to watch. The grittiness of the story and film work really well in establishing the need for cops with integrity in these kind of positions. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The courtroom scene was filmed in an actual courtroom where Charles Manson’s trial was held. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
