Number of Times Seen – Twice (22 Apr 2010 and 13 Jul 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A group of friends discover a hot tub that is able to transport them back to their days as college aged bachelors
My Take on it – This is a film that I recall seeing not long after it came out, yet couldn’t remember if it was any good.
These kind of films can be hit or miss and this one unfortunately is in the latter category.
The story and plot are extremely silly and despite having a few fun moments along the way, it really fails t be entertaining at all.
The story constantly waxes nostalgic the decade of the 80’s and to me that is always a plus in films.
They have a great cast yet they are all completely wasted because they are giving nearly nothing to do here.
John Cusack feels the most wasted here especially given the fact that he rose to stardom during the 80’s and make the right decision to not return for the sequel.
The way that they attempt to explain the science of it all is quite silly and it all seems a bit too flimsy for its own good and doesn’t manage to stay plausible or convincing in any way.
It does look like they had a lot of fun making this tho.
The plot is quite crazy and it’s failure to stay grounded in reality hurts things even more.
Bottom Line – Really silly film that has its moments especially because it finds a great way to remain nostalgic throughout. The cast is great, yet they still seem a bit wasted, especially Cusack who probably should have known better. The science of the film is quite flimsy and fails to be convincing, but they still manage to find a way to keep things at least looking fun. The plot is pretty crazy and fails to find a way to stay tethered to the ground which hurts things even more.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In an interview, John Cusack stated that he made his decision to join the cast of this film almost entirely based off of the title. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
