The Limehouse Golem (2016)

“If you want your name etched in stone, you’re gonna have to take up the chisel yourself.” – Dan Leno

Number of Times Seen – 1 (27 Jul 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A Scotland Yard detective tries to solve the mysterious slew of murders in the area supposedly perpetrated by a person know as The Golem before an actress is hanged under the accusation of murdering her husband.

My Take on it – This is yet another film that I knew nothing about before coming across it recently.

The film presents a great mystery and they find an intriguing way to keep things flowing so well.

The pacing is done well and that adds to the way that things progress throughout.

Bill Nighy is superb in the lead role and helps make us really believe that his character is so efficient in all that he tries to do in a very realistic manner.

The twists and turns in the plot help raise the level of suspense more and more as things progress which helps make the viewer constantly try to guess what is really going on as more and more clues are revealed.

The story does an amazing job mixing together real characters with fictional ones while also adding into the mix a mysterious mythical creature.

The story remains suspenseful and thrilling throughout and that helps raise the stakes over and over as things move along.

Love the way that this film is able to make this all seem as if it really occurred because things look so believable the entire time in a very effective way.

Bottom Line – Interesting murder mystery that is presented in a very intriguing manner. Nighy is great in the lead role and makes his sleuth seem quite realistic in all that he does. The story is filled with a bunch of twists and turns that help keep the viewer guessing what really happened. The way that the story mixes together real characters with fictional ones along with the addition of a mythical creature helps keep things filled with suspense from start to finish. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Though only appearing in the movie briefly, philosopher Karl Marx was indeed living in London at the time the movie is set. Because he was a Jew and propounded socialist ideas, he was actually harassed by the police. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
