Daniel (1983)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“If they didn’t arrest people, they’d have nothing to do.” – Paul Isaacson

Number of Times Seen – 1 (4 Aug 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A man tries to find out if his parents were truly foreign spies when they were executed decades earlier.

Bottom Line – Powerful story that asks some very deep questions about the way memories work and how one might question events from decades past. The cast is great with Timothy Hutton making us believe everything his characters says or does in his quest to discover the truth The story is based in part on the story of the Rosenbergs and makes us wonder how their descendants would think of their trial and convictions especially if the facts are still a bit unclear. Mandy Patinkin and Lindsey Crouse are both great as the convicted parents in flashback scenes. Sidney Lumet does an amazing job directing this film. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Despite its commercial failure, this was one of Sidney Lumet’s favorite films of his own. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
