The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler (2009)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“I remember what Father used to say. You see a man drowning, you must try to save him even if you cannot swim.” – Irene Sendler

Number of Times Seen – 1 (5 Aug 2020)

Brief Synopsis – Based on the true story of a Polish nurse who was instrumental in saving thousands of Jewish children from the Nazis during World War II.

Bottom Line – Fascinating film that is able to tell such a powerful story. Anna Paquin is superb in the title role and allows us to get a clear impression of who this woman really was. The supporting cast is also great with Marcia Gay Harden and Goran Visnjik helping keep things both gripping and thrilling at the story unfolds.  They do a wonderful job showing how normal people were able to show their defiance against the Nazis. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This film’s opening prologue states: “World War II rages through Europe. In occupied Poland, the Germans have established the Warsaw Ghetto for all the Jewish residents of the city. Over 440,000 Jews are forced inside its walls . . . There are some Poles who want to help . . . ” (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
