“How about a game of I Spy?” – Robert
Number of Times Seen – 1 (9 Aug 2020)
Brief Synopsis – An estranged father and son travel from London to Italy in order to try and sell their house.
My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident and was quite curious to see because it features Liam Neeson and his real life son playing father and son.
Unfortunately, Neeson is much more comfortable in an action thriller than something like this.
He never seems to feel like he is in his element here and things come across far too awkwardly throughout.
His lack of chemistry with any of his costars, including his real life son also hurts things far too much along the way.
The pacing is extremely slow and nothing really happens as the story tries to unfold in very strange ways.
This is meant as a road trip film where a father and son get to bond with one another, yet they never give us any reason to truly care about these characters or about what will happen to them along the way because they all seem far too superficial for their own good.
The landscapes of Italy are nice to look at and that is probably the best thing that this film has to offer us which is truly a shame.
Bottom Line – terrible film that doesn’t work at all. Neeson seems very out of his element in this film and has no chemistry with any of his costars , including his real life son. The story moves along at a snail’s pace and they never give us any reason to care about the characters who all remain very underdeveloped. The film is meant as a sort of road trip story where a father and son who are estranged can bond, yet there never is any moment where we actually can care that this will happen because the characters are just not interesting enough. The picturesque views of Italy is all that this film has to offer which is really a shame.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Liam Neeson stars opposite his real-life son Micheál Richardson. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
