Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You (2016)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“There is a tendency for people when they get older to stop asking questions, and they’re not learning anymore. And Norman, I can guarantee you, the conversation will mostly be him trying to ask questions. He’s interested in people, in life, not just in telling stories, but interested in humankind.” – George Clooney

Number of Times Seen – 1 (9 Aug 2020)

Brief Synopsis – Documentary about the producer who was able to change the way people view television sit-coms.

Bottom Line – Amazing documentary that works so well telling the story of this TV pioneer. Lear himself gives us so much insight into how he was able to find ways to tweak the system to a point where things took on a whole new look and feel. The interviews with many of his contemporaries, along with modern actors and TV crew members is able to tell us so much about the man, his work ethic and ultimately, his genius in creating the kind of comedy shows that are still very popular after more than 5 decades. Highly Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When it was aired on television for the first time, a big warning appeared on the screen stating none of the content being presented should be taken seriously and should only be seen for the purpose of hilarity. Norman stated that the sitcom became successful later on, because people knew Archie Bunker: to many people Archie Bunker was their own father. (From IMDB)

Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10)
