Aces High (1976)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“[as the pilots set off early in the morning on a dangerous mission] How many for breakfast? Any of them?” – Mess Corporal Bennett

Number of Times Seen – 1 (10 Aug 2020)

Brief Synopsis – The high death rate among pilots during World War I, puts more strain on the rest following each new mission.

Bottom Line – Really boring war film that fails to work on any level. The characters aren’t developed at all and they all seem like caricatures the whole way through. The dog fight scenes are commendable, but they would be better if we could care to root for any of the pilots in these battles. The cast is quite talented with Malcolm McDowell, Christopher Plummer and Peter Firth being fun to watch even if they don’t mange to help make this story any more interesting or enjoyable to follow.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In World War I, attacks on balloons were dangerous because machine guns and anti-aircraft guns formed a protective circle beneath the balloons. Therefore, pilots dove at a steep angle when they attacked. They did not attack horizontally. (From IMDB)

Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
