“The best leaders lead from the front and with passion. Soldiers will not follow a general who does not care about casualties. And sends them in wave after wave, not caring about the loss of life. They care about people who inspire them, who motivate them, who care about them. That’s who I wanted to be here at Boys State, was that kind of leader. And.. I think I am.” – Steven Garza

Brief Synopsis – Documentary about a yearly event in Texas where hundreds of teens get together in order to learn about government and politics via a workshop on the political system.
My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident and due to my interest in politics, decided to check it out.
They do a wonderful job showing us how this workshop is able to instill even more love for government and the political system for these teens who already have shown interest by allowing them to learn firsthand how politic and the political system really works.
These teens are all quite talented and intelligent and they allow us to see the kind of future politicians these young men might be.
The fact that they all are already interested in politics allows for them to participate more freely in all that happens which helps make things even more enjoyable to watch unfold.
This film is able to focus on some of these young men who are able to tell us their true thoughts on so many subjects related to politics and the political system.
Being able to see how this event unfolds is quite intriguing because we get to watch how real politics work as we are privy to understanding why certain teens make particular decisions that have political repercussions.
These teens have lots of political savvy and it’s quite impressive being able to see how these teens deal with things especially given the fact that they are all being groomed to be a part of the future political leadership via this very intense and educational workshop.
Bottom Line – Great documentary that really lets us get a clear idea of how the US political system works. The teens admitted to this workshop are all very talented and intelligent and most importantly strive for a future in politics or government which gives them more of a reason to participate to their fullest. They are able to focus on some of these teens who are able to state their thoughts on various subjects while also trying to adhere to the way that the political system works; in more ways than one. I was quite impressed by the political savvy of some of these teens and they show so much promise for the future. Recommended!
