Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Aug 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A cynical architect wakes up in a world where everything that happens feels like she’s living in a romantic comedy.
My Take on it – This is a film that I had never heard about until my good friend Table 9 Mutant from Cinema Parrot Disco mentioned it in her monthly recap.
The premise sounded intriguing, so I decided to check it out.
Unfortunately, it all comes across in a very silly fashion and fails to work better than it manages.
The premise is actually an interesting one, yet they fail to find a way to execute is better and things come across in a pretty strange and silly way throughout.
Rebel Wilson and Andy Devine have great chemistry together and both are fine here, yet nothing more than that.
The use of Liam Hemsworth has its moments here and there, but overall, he is pretty much wasted in this film and fails to add more to the story that could potentially make it more enjoyable to watch.
Like most Romantic Comedies, this film is quite predictable in all that it tries to do and it over uses many Rom-Com cliches that it takes away so much from the originality of it all.
The gimmicks work at the beginning, but gets silly far too quickly and takes away the fun from this idea.
This film does manage to find a way to give us some very perceptive observations about the genre, but unfortunately they never manage to give us enough to make us care even more about things happening.
Bottom Line – Pretty silly film that fails to work better than it does. The premise is quite intriguing, but the execution is far less than perfect. Wilson and Devine re fine here and Hemsworth doesn’t add enough to things in order to make it more enjoyable. The film (like most rom-coms) is far too predictable and they try to use far too many rom-com cliches to help make things more fun, but that too fails to be funny enough. They do manage to give us some nice observations about the genre, but that just isn’t enough to make this more watchable.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Due to how often Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine have acted as love interests, Rebel has joked that they are “essentially the Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling now… we just play love interests in all movies.” Additionally, Adam has stated that Rebel is his “work wife.”(From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
