Polar (2019)

“Try not to be scared.” – Duncan Vizla

Number of Times Seen – 1 (25 Aug 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A talented hitman is suddenly targeted by his superiors who wish to avoid paying him a retirement fee.

My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident and knew absolutely nothing about before watching it.

I was impressed by the intense action here while still holding on to an enjoyable story line.

The film works even better due to the great special effects and the talents of the main character who is always able to surprise as things move along.

This film gives a nice perspective of how the vocation of assassin works while also allowing us to see the various pitfalls of things along the way.

The characters all know that in this kind of business, one must only learn to trust themselves because very one else will do just about anything for the money and the thrill of the kill.

Madds Mikkelson is great in the lead role and allows us to believe so many of the seemingly unbelievable things that he must do while taking it all to the very limit.

The story itself is pretty unique an goes places one might not expect.

The delivery is quite intense and works due to the way that things unfold in some very unexpected ways.

The film is filled with lots of great twists and turns that help keep things interesting and also enhance the story as things progress.

Bottom Line – Very intense action movie that works really well due to the special effects and the talents of the lead character. They do a wonderful job showing us the way that this kind of profession works.  The characters all know that they can never trust anyone else and that is the main theme of this story.  Mikkelson is quite believable in this very unbelievable role which helps takes so many things to the limit. The story is quite unique and manages to deliver quite well because of the way that things unfold along the way.  The twists and turns along the way help enhance the story and make things even more enjoyable to watch as things move along.  Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Released on Netflix in the US within weeks of the theatrical release of another Mads Mikkelsen-led movie ‘Arctic’, which happened to be titled ‘Polar’ in some international territories. The two movies are unrelated. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
