Brief Synopsis – A German soldier takes on the guise of an Officer in the waning days of World War II in order to survive.
My Take on it – This is a film that I had never heard of before seeing that my good friend Darren of Movie Reviews 101 reviewed it which inspired me to check it out.
The film is actually a great look at how a uniform could help give someone so much confidence to do unexpected things.
A uniform can show one’s responsibilities and power and can also help guide someones actions.
The film is based on a real story and they present things in a very realistic way throughout which helps make it even more gripping to watch unfold.
There are so many small tales of World War II that show the complex world that was created during the war and in some cases caused people to do some very tragic and atrocious things that they might not have done under other circumstances.
The choice to show this film in black and white helps add to the realism of the story because it feels more like a documentary and helps make even some of the outrageous actions in this film feel even more possible that they truly happened.
The film has lots of brutal and graphic scenes that show how things can sometimes get out of control in these kind of situations, yet they find a way to show them in a way that things feel quite believable.
Bottom Line – Interesting look at how a uniform and its responsibilities and power can affect a persons actions. The story is quite intriguing and is presented in a way that it all comes across quite realistically throughout. The choice to film this in black and white helps make this feel as if we are watching a documentary which adds more realism to this story and the brutality of it all. Recommended!
