Number of Times Seen – 1 (9 Sep 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A couple living in the woods by themselves are attacked by member of a devious cult after their leader see the woman and wants her for himself.
My Take on it – I have never been a fan of horror movies and of Nicholas Cage movies.
This one gives me a double dose since both are present here.
This was a really crazy and uninteresting revenge flick that doesn’t really do enough with the characters or story.
They shot the film in a very dark hue in order to make it creepier, but instead it makes the viewer feel even more distant and disconnected from the characters.
Cage doesn’t do much here besides grunt throughout the story.
The story moves along at a super slow pace and its two hour run time is far too long.
Th amount of extraneous blood that spews in this film is excessive and takes away a bit from things.
The film’s supporting cast also isn’t able to add much here.
Linus Roache plays things over the top as the cult leader and makes the character seem far too maniacal throughout.
The film has a few scenes that are a mix between animation and live action and they are probably best experienced under the influence and when one s sober, they come across as being quite uninteresting due to the way they present things.
Bottom Line – Crazy, psychedelic revenge flick that fails to endear the characters to us. The film is shot in a very dark hue that makes it even more different to try and feel any connection with the characters. Cage grunts his way thru the film which is too gory and too long for its own good. The supporting cast also doesn’t help make this any better because Roache plays his character over the top as he proves the maniacal nature of his character. The mix of animation and live action towards the end makes things even less interesting to watch because of how it is all presented.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – There are several similarities between Jeremiah Sand and real-life cult leader Charles Manson. Like Sand, Manson was also a failed musician who reportedly took it very personally when his musicianship was insulted. Sand refers to his victims as “pigs,” as did Manson and his followers. Psychedelic drugs were also used before acts of violence. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (2/10)
