The Hoax (2006)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“Cliff, you publish this you will have a storm of sh*t rain down on you.” – Dick Suskind

Number of Times Seen – Twice (22 Apr 2008 and 9 Sep 2020)

Brief Synopsis – Based on the true story of a man who claimed to have a personal connection to Howard Hughes and was paid to write a tell all about this recluse millionaire’s life.

Bottom Line – Fascinating idea that works quite well due to the performances of Richard Gere and Alfred Molina. The story is told really well and it is quite easy to believe that this truly happened. The way that things unfold is done really well and allows us to get a clear understanding of what happened and how it happened. The story remains intriguing throughout as the characters dig themselves deeper and deer into trouble. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The real-life story that this film depicts unfolded as Orson Welles was making his film, “F For Fake”, in which the real Clifford Irving appears. Because of Irving’s new-found notoriety, Welles was obliged to add some additional footage to his film. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
