Elite Squad 2: The Enemy Within (2010) – 6900th Review!!!

“You son of a bitch, look at me! If something happens to my son, or anyone else in my family, I will kill every single one of you, are you understanding me?” – Lt. Colonel Nascimento

Number of Times Seen – 1 (13 Sep 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A former police captain who is now a security officer in Rio must deal wth both the corruption in the police force and in the government.

My Take on it – After watching the first movie in this series, I was quite interested in seeing what the sequel had to offer.

They do a nice job of continuing the previous story yet also show a new direction for the story which works since they don;t rehash anything from the previous story.

They are able to combine the various corruption on both security and political fronts in government and show how they need to work hand in hand to both be more effective and efficient.

The characters are developed really well here and the various twists and turns along the way help make things even more engaging to watch unfold.

This film (and its predecessor) never shy away from showing the corruption that is rampant in these systems and that helps make things even more interesting to watch especially when characters try to justify their actions in different ways.

The film also utilizes a non-linear story line which helps enhance things to a point where you never really know where things are headed and more importantly one never is sure of what will happen along that journey.

Bottom Line – Intriguing thriller that is able to combine the corrupt security and political wings of the system really well. The characters are developed well and the various twists and turns along the way helps keep the story very engaging throughout. They never try and shy away from showing the controversial ways that these two arms of the law are corrupt and help things along by showing the possible justification for some of the actions. The non lnear aspects in the story also add to the suspense of it all as things happen in very unexpected ways. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – About 11.1 million paying viewers made it the most seen movie in Brazilian cinema history. It also became the highest-grossing film of all time in Brazil, beating Avatar (2009)’s record. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
