“This man will never be a slave, yet he is willing to risk his life and the life of his sons.. so we can be free. No sir. I cannot sit idle while this man fights for me. We can’t all fight this war with a pen Mr. Douglas. Some of us best equipped to fight this war with a gun. I think I’ll go with the old man.” – Shields Green
Number of Times Seen – 1 (24 Sep 2020)
Brief Synopsis – An escaped slave flees to the North and helps join the fight against slavery.
Bottom Line – Enjoyable biopic that tells a little known story in a fascinating way. The characters are developed quite well and we can sympathize quite easily with everything that they experience. The supporting cast is also quite good and I loved seeing James Cromwell, Bruce Dern and Mykelti Williamson in this film. The story itself is paced really well and allows us to get a clear idea of the events that happened here which helped this man find a way to not only be free, but fight for the freedom of others. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Shields Green was captured at Harpers Ferry and hanged. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
