This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!
“There are only four questions of value in life, Don Octavio. What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same: only love.” – Don Juan
Number of Times Seen – Twice (22 Apr 2008 and 28 Sep 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A psychiatrist on the verge of retirement must try and convince a new patient that he isn’t Don Juan, the world’s greatest lover.
Bottom Line – Very intriguing idea that doesn’t work as well as one might hope. Marlon Brando mumbles his way through the story and Johnny Depp goes a bit overboard with this character. The plot has potential, but it’s wasted here by the way that thing unfold. The sessions between doctor and patient don’t come across powerfully enough which takes away from the impact that this story can potentially have. Great theme song by Brian Adams (Have you ever really loved a woman) that is very poignant and has a deep meaning to it.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – In order to learn a Spanish accent, Johnny Depp watched a tape of episodes of Fantasy Island (1977). (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
