The Joker is Wild (1957)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“You know I wish I had a camera right now, because I could get the perfect picture of a guy with his two feet in his mouth.” – Joe E. Lewis

Number of Times Seen – 1 (29 Sep 2020)

Brief Synopsis – After refusing to let mobsters make decisions for his gigs, a singer is assaulted by them, which leads him into a career as a comedian.

Bottom Line – Fun film that works even better de to the performance of Frank Sinatra in the lead role.  The story is a mixture of laughs and dramatic moments that show how addiction, sadness and loneliness could affect a performer. The fact that this is based on real events adds so much to things because we know how possible something like this could happen.  The supporting cast is also great with Eddie Albert, Mitzi Gaynor and Jeanne Crain helping out here. Deservingly won an Oscar for Best Song for All the Way.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The film’s name was changed to All the Way when re-released. This, after the success and popularity of the Oscar-winning song from the movie, All the Way. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
