Number of Times Seen – Twice (14 Mar 2011 and 2 Oct 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A recent college graduate who cannot find a job moves in with her eccentric parents.
My Take on it – This is a film that I recall seeing years ago yet didn’t recall anything about it.
I now understand why..
This film is quite unmemorable in everything that it does because the message of things is quite weak.
The film actually has a pretty talented cast but none of them are given enough to do and all seem far too stereotypical and superficial in everything they say or do.
Even the main characters parents played by Michael Keaton and Jane Lynch aren’t able to shine here despite the fact that they both play very eccentric characters.
Carol Burnett plays the grandmother and even she can’t help make this more interesting to watch.
The story isn’t grounded at all and limps along quite weakly throughout.
The pacing of the story is poorly done and things move along really slowly throughout which makes things somewhat torturous to watch because very little happens along the way.
The film’s predictable nature is also problematic because the film plays out exactly as one might expect and there are absolutely no surprises as the story races to the finale.
Bottom Line – Really boring film that is very uninspiring in what it does because the message is weak. The cast is fine, yet the characters aren’t given enough to do. The characters of the parents played by Keaton and Lynch are a bit too weird and eccentric for their own good and it’s hard to feel grounded by everything they say or do. Even Burnett can’t help make this any more enjoyable to watch. The story itself is paced quite slowly and the predictable nature of the plot makes this a race to reach an expected point because there aren’t any real surprises along the way.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Carol Burnett also played Jane Lynch’s mother on Glee (2009). (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
