2067 (2020)

“What if I told you that you could save all of us?” – Regina

Number of Times Seen – 1 (7 Oct 2020)

Brief Synopsis – In a world dying due to lack of oxygen, a man is sent into the future in order to find a way to save the present.

My Take on it – This is a film that I came across recently and knew nothing about it before watching it.

The premise is actually a fascinating one, but they fail to make it work properly.

They try much too hard to make this story feel more grandiose than it really is and instead of using simple ideas to further the plot, they attempt riskier and more complex ones that just aren’t plausible enough.

The film sports a fine unknown cast and that actually helps make things seem even more realistic in how things are presented.

The movie spends too much of its time pondering philosophical and scientific questions abut destiny and time travel rules and this in the end makes things feel far too mechanical instead of allowing it to flow better.

The idea of someone form the future sending a message to the past works well but they end up doing a poor job of trying to explain things in a way that they don’t cause more time paradoxes along the way.

Bottom Line – Really fascinating premise that fails to work on so many levels. The film tries too hard to be something much greater and they pass over simplistic ideas in favor of attempting grandiose ones.  The cast is fine and despite being relatively unknown, they all come across realistically. The film spends too much of its run time pondering the questions of destiny and time and this takes away from this far too much.  Love the idea of getting a message from the future, but they do a poor job explaining things in a way that wouldn’t cause a time paradox.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – At the end of the credits, it states ‘no butterflies were harmed during the making of this film’. This is not only a reference to the butterfly that is briefly viewed at the end; but also possibly to the butterfly effect, one of the many referenced theories on time included throughout the film. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
