“I think everybody saw this guy is going to be President someday. But so soon? So quickly?” – Van Jones
Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Oct 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A look at the election process and campaigns in 2008 of Senators Barack Obama and John McCain who vied for the Presidency.
My Take on it – As a fan of history and most specifically US History, I have always been fascinated by the Presidency.
When I came across this series by accident, I was quite interested in seeing what it was all about.
The fact that we are in an election year also piqued my interest in seeing what this series has to say about past Presidential elections and their effects on the way that these elections are run today.
I recall this election quite well and it was such a fascinating campaign trail to follow over the course of the whole year.
This episodes does a wonderful job allowing us to see how challenging this particular election really was.
Both Barack Obama and John McCain were very diverse candidates who disagreed on so much and this led to such a powerful election.
The way that both of these candidates chose vice-presidential running mates who would be able to challenge the other one is great because it helped both sides try to shore up some of the things they were lacking.
This ultimately backfired for McCain when it turned out that his choice wasn’t as well thought out as it should have been.
The campaigning between both sides was quite intense and dirty and the choice between two Senators; one a veteran and on who just joined the National Spotlight.
They do an excellent job here showing the vigorous campaigning by both of these candidates and I recall how thrilling the run down to the election was.
Bottom Line – Great look at this very challenging Presidential election. Obama and McCain were both very different kinds of candidates and their diversity led to such a powerful election. Both of these men chose vice presidential candidates who would help them in places where they were lacking. The campaigning was quite harsh on both sides and this turned into quite a dirty run for the Presidency between a veteran Senator and a Senator just two years in the The National spotlight. Excellent way of showing the vigorous campaigning by these two opposing candidates. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – As of the 2016 presidential election, Obama’s total count of 69.5 million votes still stands as the largest tally ever won by a presidential candidate. (From Wikipedia)
Rating – Oscar Worthy (9/10)
