“He’s an accidental President and he knows it.” – Updegrove, Mark K.
Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Oct 2020)
Brief Synopsis – In depth look at the Presidential election between Lyndon John and Barry Goldwater in 1964.
Bottom Line – fascinating look at the way that elections played out more than half a century ago. The film does a superb job showing how both of these men ended up getting their respective party’s nomination after much blood and sweat. The election itself was even more brutal as these once close friends needed to square it off in the general election. The film shows the kind of backgrounds both of these men had in both the public and private aspects of their lives which helped each of them seek out their own way to the possibility of the Presidency. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Goldwater’s unsuccessful bid significantly influenced the modern conservative movement. The long-term realignment of conservatives to the Republican Party continued, culminating in the 1980 presidential victory of Ronald Reagan. (From Wikipedia)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
