The Gentlemen (2019)

This a Covid-19 2020 minireview!

“There’s only one rule in the jungle: when the lion’s hungry, he eats!” – Mickey Pearson

Number of Times Seen – 1 (19 Oct 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A criminal tries to sell his lucrative marijuana business in London, but there are too many people trying to take over his empire from within.

Bottom Line – Typical Guy Ritchie gangster film that gets far too convoluted as things progress. The cats is superb and Hugh Grant stands out among the rest because he is under heavy makeup and also is playing against type as a gangster like this one. The story tries to cleverly use camera shots to throw in a bunch of twists and turns in the story and those ploys are hit or miss along the way. Ritchie has done much better films in this genre in the past.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Hugh Grant revealed on The Graham Norton Show (2007) that he had not met Matthew McConaughey during the shoot of The Gentlemen (2019). In fact, the first time they met was on that same Graham Norton show. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
