Brief Synopsis – Intimate look at the life of one of the men who changed the face of television in the 50’s that has resonated so much even after 60 years.
My Take on it – I have never been the biggest fan of The Twilight Zone TV show, but I was always aware of the talent of the creator of the series, Rod Serling.
This was a great documentary that sheds so much light on his life and his career.
We get to understand how he was able to come up with o many fascinating and riveting ideas for his stories.
The number of interviews with friends, family and colleagues is quite eye opening into the mind of this very unique man.
Some of them give us a perspective on things that is quite unique and helps paint a picture of what things were like back in the 1950’s at the onset of the television industry.
The events of his life ere so impactful on his thoughts and ideals which reflect on the social commentary within his stories in such an engaging and fascinating way that have resonated for decades afterward.
This movie clearly shows how much of an impact he had on the medium of television and his influence is still visible more than 60 years later.
Bottom Line – Fascinating look at the life of Serling and how he was able to think of so many intriguing ideas for his writing. The interviews with friends, colleagues and family are quite eye opening as to what kind of man he was and how the events of his life led him down some very ingenious paths for ideas on how to give over social commentary on so many different aspects of life in such an engaging way. The fact that he was among the pioneers of changing television into a powerful medium is quite clear. Recommended!
