“Everything that we did was live, and I love that, because if something goes wrong, your ability to correct it is part of the show.” – Edie Adams

Brief Synopsis – A look at the life and career of America’s first Television comedienne who changed the way the world looked at women in the industry.
My Take on it – As a kid who grew up watching I Love Lucy reruns just about every day, it was so great to watch this documentary about the life of the star of that show, Lucille Ball.
This film is able to show what kind of performer and eventual TV executive she was and how much she was able to help shape and change the way that things were done in this medium.
Along with her husband and Producing partner Desi Arnaz, they re-invented the way TV shows were made and has largely followed the same path for over 70 years.
The film has some great interviews with friends, family and comic colleagues who all are able to reflect on the way that this women was able to change the face of comedy while also advancing the view of women in the medium.
We can get a much more intimate look at both her professional and personal life from some of the people who knew her so well while also explaining how she became so successful in all she did for so many decades.
We also get to see how her comedic talent and success affected her life in ways that she never would have imagined both for the good and unfortunately, also for the bad.
Bottom Line – Amazing documentary that really shows what kind of performer and producer Ball was. She and her husband/partner Arnaz really helped change the face of Television comedies for nearly 70 years (so far). The interviews with friends, colleagues and future comedians who all reflect on how this funny woman changed their lives is so poignant to watch. They are able to give the viewer a more intimate look at why she was so successful as a performer and comedienne for so long. They do a wonderful job showing how her career and personal life were affected by the various changes in her life due to her comedic talent. Highly Recommended!
