Thunder Road (2018)

“Just because somebody leaves… just because somebody chooses to leave, that doesn’t mean they didn’t want to be here with you. It means they had a hard time with things. It’s a lot for some people.” – Officer Jim Arnaud

Number of Times Seen – 1 (12 Nov 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A policeman must deal with his mother’s death and his impending divorce and custody battle.

My Take on it – This is a film that I knew nothing about but after seeing Jim Cumming’s latest film, The Wolf of Snow Hollow (2020) a few weeks ago, I wanted to see what his debut feature would bring.

They actually do a nice o here with this story and the fact that the main character is so well developed helps keep things so engrossing to watch.

This story allows us to see how tragic events in one’s life can effect them in both their personal and their professional life in ways we might nerve have dreamed of.

Cummings does a great job with this story and character and it truly is a fine debut for him as both writer and director in addition to playing the lead character.

This character is quite easy to relate to based on the various issues that he encounters along the way.

This film is able to show how one might deal with monumental events that hit them with very little to no warning and try and find a way to bring their life back on the right track despite these setbacks along the way.

Bottom Line – Intriguing film that does a nice job of developing the main character so well. We get to see how each of these monumental events affects both his personal and professional life as he struggles to come to grips with it all. Cummings is great in the lead and has really created a character that is easy to relate to because of his various issues. The story does a nice job dealing with how people deal with tragedy each in their own way and need to find something to set them on the right path back. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Made back its $200,000 budget and then some in its first week playing in 67 theaters in France where it was a sleeper hit. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
