Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Nov 2020)
Brief Synopsis – After a women begins to suspect that her husband is having an affair, she travels with her family to confront him in New York City.
My Take on it – This is a film that revolves around Thanksgiving time and is perfectly suited for this blogathon.
The story itself is a bit too strange despite having some fun scenes along the way.
They do an interesting job developing these characters so that they all have some very quirky eccentricities, but they unfortunately take thing too far to the extreme which actually hurts things along the way.
The cast of the film is very talented but the way that they present things feels far too unoriginal which hurts the story from being more memorable and meaningful.
Hope Davis, Stanley Tucci, Parker Posey and Liev Schreiber are all fine here but the standouts are clearly Pat McNamara and Anne Meara who play Davis and Posey’s parents because they are hilarious in everything that they saw and do here.
The dialogue is slightly quirky, but they still find ways to make this story have some merits along the way as things unfold.
Bottom Line – Strange film that does have a few fun parts along the way. The characters are all developed well and they each have their own eccentricities which are unfortunately a bit too extreme. The cast is quite talented, but the story feels a bit too unoriginal which doesn’t let them do anything more meaningful. The dialogue is a bit quirky, but the overall idea has some merits in the way things play out. The cast of Hope Davis, Stanley Tucci, Parker Posey and Liev Schreiber are all fine here but the standouts are clearly Pat McNamara and Anne Meara who are hilarious as the parents of the two women played by Davis and Posey.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Filmed in 17 days on a $50,000 budget. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
