“Welcome to the moon!” – Jim Lovell
Number of Times Seen – 1 (1 Dec 2020)
Brief Synopsis – Documentary that chronicles the Apollo Space flights that traveled from the Earth to the Moon 50 years ago.
My Take on it – I have always been a fan of the US space program and try to watch as many films and documentaries that touch upon the subject.
This is a fascinating film that is able to utilize archival footage and audio to give us an even deeper look into the Apollo missions and the men who took part in them.
We also get insights from the NASA support staff and the media outlets about all that transpired during the missions.
The movie is able to give us lots of enjoyable facts and tidbits abut the missions along with some humorous anecdotes that happened along the way when they gave interviews.
Unfortunately, the chronicling of the Apollo missions is a very comprehensive subject and this film only scratches the surface of the information.
It’s also a bit disappointing that they gloss over a number of the missions due o time constraints.
Hearing some of the insights by the astronauts about space flight and all that they were able to accomplish is great especially given the fact that we can also learn about the many dangers that these men needed to try and avoid while seeking a way to continue scientific exploration beyond our world itself.
Bottom Line – Fascinating documentary that is able to give us lots of archive footage and archive audio of the astronauts that went to the moon along with their support staff at NASA. They are able to give us lots of enjoyable tidbits about the flights and things that happened along the way mostly . This film is unfortunately far too short for such a comprehensive subject and they gloss over numerous mission which is a bit disappointing. To hear the insights of some of the astronauts about space flight and everything they accomplished is great because it allows us to learn so much about these men and the dangers that they were willing to battle in the name of science and exploration. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The Apollo program was the third United States human spaceflight program carried out by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), which accomplished landing the first humans on the Moon from 1969 to 1972. During the Apollo 11 mission, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed their Apollo Lunar Module (LM) and walked on the lunar surface, while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command and service module (CSM), and all three landed safely on Earth on July 24, 1969. Five subsequent Apollo missions also landed astronauts on the Moon, the last in December 1972. In these six spaceflights, twelve men walked on the Moon. (From Wikipedia)
Rating – Globe Worthy (8/10)
