“You’re so money and you don’t even know it! ” – Trent
Number of Times Seen – Twice (24 Sep 1999 and 1 Dec 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A group of friends look for love while seeking to become famous in LA.
My Take on it – This is a film that I recall hearing so much about when it came out yet it still took me a few years to finally see what it was all about.
The characters are developed really well here and it’s so easy to believe them and everything that happens to them.
Jon Favreau is superb in the lead role and his performance helps make the audience care so much about him despite his neurotic and self destructive personality throughout.
His chemistry with Vince Vaughn and Ron Livingston are great because their friendship feels so genuine throughout.
The fact that they were real friends on reality also helps.
The pacing of the story works really well in helping establish the lifestyle of these characters and we can feel a connection with these characters as they seek out love and stature in L.A.
The various antics and anecdotes that happen here feel so real and it is so believable that these kind of things possibly actually did occur to the lives of Favreau and hos group of friends.
Bottom Line – Really fun film that works so well due to the performances of Favreau, Vaughn and Livingston. The fact that they all were friends in real life helps make things feel even more realistic here. Favreau plays the lead character so well and despite his flaws, he is still lovable and the audience can root for him the whole way through. The story moves along at a nice pace and the way that these characters are developed helps make things feel so much more genuine and real. Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The movie is loosely based on the experiences writer Jon Favreau had when he first moved to Los Angeles. He had just broken up with a long term girlfriend and counted on his friends Vince Vaughn and Ron Livingston to cheer him up. The characters they play in the film are based on themselves. (From IMDB)
Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
