“Now being a Tooth Fairy didn’t sound so bad to me; You only work nights, you’ve always got a little change in your pocket.” – Agnes
Number of Times Seen – 1 (17 Dec 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A good hearted yet bored fairy takes on the task of trying to help a young widow ad her children.
My Take on it – This is a film that I recently came across that seemed to have potential due to its premise.
Unfortunately things are presented in a far too silly way.
The story itself is quite bland and predictable and despite being a Disney movie, it all feels far too much like fluff for its own good.
The cast does a nice job with what they are given and Jillian Bell stands out n the lead role especially given how she deals with the anachronistic aspects of the story.
The rest of the cast each have memorable scenes and Isla Fisher, Jane Curtin and especially June Squibb help things as much as they can here.
They deal too much with familiar tropes and antics of this kind of genre and fail to find their own unique voice in telling such a tale.
The film’s idea of having a fairy encounter modern day things is fun at the start but it actually gets a bit too annoying along the way because they overuse the gag to a point where it becomes quite unbearable to watch which hurts things a bit too much.
Bottom Line – Fun yet somewhat silly Disney movie that is a bit too bland and predictable. The characters are fine and obviously Bell stands on in her anachronistic role. The rest of the cast also have their moments with Fisher, Curtain and especially Squibb helping along. The story is too fluffy and deals too heavily with known tropes of the genre instead of trying to make things unique. The idea of having a fairy encounter many modern things is fun at first, but gets annoying due to excessive amount that it is done in the film.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Sharon Maguire’s Disney directorial debut. She is well known for directing Bridget Jones Baby. (From IMDB)
Rating – BAFTA Worthy (5/10)
