Genre Guesstimation – Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 (1987)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Chris ‘Tank’ Tanski of Fright Rags and we will be reviewing our favorite Alternative Christmas Movies.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Dec by sending them to alternativetank@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Tank!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Alternative Christmas Movies……

“You tend to get paranoid when everyone around you gets dead.” – Ricky Caldwell

Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Dec 2020)

Brief Synopsis – A grown up Ricky talks to his psychiatrist as to how he became a murderer.

My Take on it – I decided that in order to make my guest choices of the Genre for the Genre Grandeur series more personal (and expand my own personal horizons of these genres), I will take a recommendation from my guest for a film to watch for this Genre Guesstimation series.

This movie was Tank’s choice for me to watch.

I actually can’t believe that Tank made me watch this piece of crap! 🙂

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first film, but this one made that film look like a masterpiece.

The first 45 minutes of this movie basically shows scenes from the previous film and doesn’t really add anything to the story line.

They seem to try and add a reason as to why the murders were committed, yet don;t do a very convincing job of that.

The story itself is extremely silly and is so bad that they surpass the laughable point because it just is horrendous.

This is meant to be a horror movie, yet it isn’t in the least bit scary.

Bottom Line – Horrendous sequel that is even worse than the original. More than half of this film is just reedits of the first film. The movie tacks on a pseudo reason for why the crimes in the first film were committed, but they never really make it truly convincing enough.  The story is quite silly and isn’t even scary in any way whatsoever.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – According to James Newman and Lee Harry, the role of Ricky Caldwell came down to Eric Freeman and another actor. The other actor had more experience and was a better actor overall, but they liked Freeman’s looks better, so they chose him. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close. Terrible film from start to finish.

Rating – Razzie Worthy (1/10)
