Number of Times Seen – 1 (22 Dec 2020)
Brief Synopsis – A once popular and successful teenage detective tries to still make something of himself years later.
My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident and was quite intrigued about especially given the fact that as a kid in the 80’s, I was a big fan of the Encyclopedia Brown series of detective stories.
I always wondered what would have happened to him when he became an adult and this movie allows us to see how someone similar to him could be effected by his fame as a young kid.
This movie’s story is fun and quirky and allows us to see how childhood memories and fame could truly affect someone decades later.
The pacing of the story is great and things are constantly on the move.
The film has a great cast led by Adam Brody who is able to show so much range with this character as things unfold.
The plot seems like a simple one, yet they find some great ways to throw in some really effective twists and turns along the way that enhance things so much.
They do a nice job keeping things interesting throughout especially when dealing with characters and crimes that transpire in a small town where everyone pretty much knows everybody else.
Bottom Line – Fun and enjoyable mystery comedy that is able to show how childhood memories can affect someone for the rest of their life. The story moves along in a great fashion and as a fan of the Encyclopedia Brown stories as a kid, they were able to accurately deal with a youth sleuth dealing with his life as an adult detective. The cast is great and help keep things moving at a nice pace throughout. The story has some great twists and turns that enhance the story and don’t make it feel bland especially when dealing with the residents of a small town. Recommended!
