“See all those words printed in a line one after the other? Put ’em all together and you have a story.” – Captain Kidd
Number of Times Seen – 1 (15 Jan 2021)
Brief Synopsis – A Civil War veteran who wanders from town to town reading the news to the people takes on the task of delivering a young girl raised by Indians to her family.
My Take on it – This is a film that I’ve been anticipating for months and was so glad to finally get a chance to see what it was all about.
Tom Hans is an amazing actor and he does a superb job in the lead role of this film.
The story allows us to see the kind of stress and effects that war can have on someone even years later and we can clearly see it on Hanks’ face the whole way through.
The story itself is paced really well and due to the way that things play out, that helps enhance things even more.
The best part of this movie is the amazing chemistry between Hanks and Helena Zengel who plays the little girl which makes things feel so much more poignant.
This adds so much to the story and helps make things feel so much more relevant and realistic as things progress.
The characters face lost of obstacles along their journey and this helps show the kind of world they were living in where so many people were looking for a way to further their own needs by trying to step on others along the way.
Paul Greengrass does a wonderful job directing this film and the way that things are shot makes things even more powerful to watch unfold.
Bottom Line – Powerful film that shows the kind of stress that veterans can have for years afterwards. Hanks is great in the lead role and makes things feel even more realistic. The story is paced really well and this helps make things even more enjoyable to watch unfold. The chemistry between Hanks and Zengel is superb and that helps make the story feel even more powerful in all that transpires. The various obstacles that these characters encounter along their journey also enhance the story because we get to see the kind of dangers that were prevalent at that time. Greengrass does a wonderful job directing this film and keeps things very powerful the whole way through. Highly Recommended!
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – This is Tom Hanks’ first western film, though he has played a western character previously providing the voice of ‘Woody’ in the “Toy Story” franchise. (From IMDB)
