“What bring you here Mr. Miller? What sort of English man would accept a position teaching Herr Hitler’s league of German girls?” – Miss Rocholl

Number of Times Seen – 1 (18 Jan 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A spy is sent undercover to a British boarding school for German girls in order to try and find out what happened to another spy who disappeared while searching for secret files.

My Take on it – This is a film that I just heard about and both the cast and premise drew me in right away.

The film presents a very intriguing and unique kind of spy story that works quite well throughout.

The film has a very talented cast led by Eddie Izzard and Judi Dench.

Izzard does a wonderful job in the lead role and helps keep things so realistic in his portrayal of things.

He also co-wrote the screenplay and it’s easy to see that he plays this character so perfectly.

Dench is also great here and she plays a character very different from the kind we are use to seeing her portray.

The film’s plot is filled with some very interesting twists and turns that help keep things so fascinating to watch unfold.

The setting and timing of this film are also chosen really well and they help keep things so thrilling to watch as it progresses since we know that the war is imminent so the stakes are quite high.

Bottom Line -Really intriguing spy story that works really well. The cast is great and Izzard does a wonderful job in the lead role. He also co-wrote the story. Loved seeing Dench in a role that is a bot different than we are used to seeing her in. The plot has some great twists and turns along the way that help keep things so fascinating to play out.  The setting and timing of this story is also great and helps keep things even more taut and thrilling because of the impending war. Recommended!

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The main plot is loosely inspired in the real-life Augusta Victoria College, located in the also real-life coastal town Bexhill-on-Sea (county of Sussex, south-east to England). As in the movie, Augusta Victoria College was a female high school for influential and high ranking Nazi families. Its name refers Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg (German: Auguste Viktoria Friederike Luise Feodora Jenny von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg), who was the last empress of Germany. The college opened in 1932 and it was closed in 1939, after the invasion of Poland by Germany that started the World War II. (From IMDB)

Rating – Globe Worthy (7/10)
