The Little Things (2021)

“It’s the little things that are important, Jimmy. It’s the little things that get you caught.?” – Joe ‘Deke’ Deacon

Number of Times Seen – 1 (29 Jan 2021)

Brief Synopsis – An aging detective goes back to his former precinct in order to try and solve a “Cold Case” that defined his career.

My Take on it – This is a film that I heard about a few months ago and was quite intrigued to see what it was all about.

I’ve always been a big fan of the work of John Lee Hancock and was curious to see how he would fair in this kind of genre.

The story is a great thriller that is able to say quite intriguing on numerous levels.

The stellar cast led by Denzel Washington, Jared Leto and Rami Malek never fails to surprise and they each create some great characters that are all multi-layered.

The characters are developed really well along the way and we get a clear idea of the motivations of each of them as things progress even when parts of the story go in directions that one might never expect.

The characters are all quite complex and intelligent which makes for a great cat and mouse crime thriller that is quite satisfying to watch.

The story plays out really well and they find ways to keep things quite impactful and powerful the whole way through.

Hancock adeptly deals with an engaging story in this genre and manages to keep things so thrilling once the story gets momentum and that it leaves the viewer on the edge of their seat for most of the film all the way until the end.

Love the various twists and turns in the story that enhance the suspense of things so much as we watch things play out right in front of us.

The story does a great job showing the kind of toll that this profession can have on people which could haunt them for so many year afterwards.

Bottom Line – Great crime thriller that works on numerous levels. The cats is stellar and they help make things even more powerful and impactful. The story plays out really well and allows us to get a clear idea of who each of these characters are as things unfold in ways that we might not expect. Hancock does a superb job writing and directing this story that will keep the viewer on the edge of their seat all the way until the credits begin to roll.  The story is filled with some great twists and turns along the way that helps keep things so thrilling and suspenseful to watch unfold. Recommended!
