“That film had a huge impact on my life.” – Carl
Number of Times Seen – 1 (1 Feb 2021)
Brief Synopsis – A physician on leave in Egypt finds love in the most unexpected place.
My Take on it – This was a film that I came across by accident and was quite intrigued to see what they would be able to do with it.
The premise itself seemed quite intriguing and somewhat unique.Unfortunately, things don’t play out in a more engaging way and that hurts things too much.
Andrea Risenborough is a talented actress, but she has a lot of trouble holding her own here as the lead.
She fails to make us care more about her character and all that transpires around her.
She has very little to no chemistry with her co-stars which is the opposite of what one should expect from a romance film like this.
None of the characters are developed on more than a very simple and superficial level which hurts things too much.
This is especially a shame given the fact that one expects so much more from a story set in such a unique and unfamiliar place.
The film is able to give us some great shots to look out when it comes to landscapes and the whole ancient and exotic area depicted in the story.
Unfortunately tho, the plot doesn’t offer us anything new and things play out in a very predictable fashion which is quite disappointing to watch.
Bottom Line – Really boring love story that just doesn’t work well enough. Risebororgh isn’t able to make us are about her character more and the chemistry that she has with her co-stars is less than one might expect here. None of the characters are developed on more than a very superficial way which makes it even harder to care about any of them or about what happens as things unfold. The cinematography is wondrous to watch though and they were able to capture some great shots of the area, but the story is quite lacking in the way that it all plays out.
MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – “Luxor” was shot in 18 days. (From IMDB)
Rating – Razzie Worthy (4/10)
