Genre Guesstimation – Severance (2006)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Aaron Neuwirth of the Code is Zeek and we will be reviewing our favorite Horror-Comedy Films.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Feb by sending them to scaryfunnyaaron@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Aaron!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Horror-Comedy Films……

“You FOUND a pie?” -Steve

Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Feb 2021)

Brief Synopsis – While on a company getaway, the executives end up encountering a group of murderers who want to kill them all.

My Take on it – This is a film that I came across by accident while researching this month’s genre.

Unfortunately, despite having an intriguing premise they don’t manage to find a way to present it in a more interesting way.

The characters are far too superficial in the way that they act and speak here which hurts things far too much.

The plot is also quite bland and predictable which also doesn’t help make things more enjoyable to watch unfold. The effects are done well and are able to give us some fun horror shots, but since the story doesn’t work, it fails the whole way through.

The dialogue between the characters also doesn’t work and fails to make things feel more realistic or genuine.

The cast is quite boring to watch here because none of the characters are really given much to do here that would make things more entertaining to watch as things progress.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – The logo for Palisades Defence – more or less a square with one corner missing – is a sly hint at the company’s way of doing business: by “cutting corners”. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not even close. The story and characters are far too superficial the whole way through.

Rating – Razzie Worthy (3/10)
