Genre Guesstimation – The Dead Don’t Die (2019)

The idea behind this feature (Genre Guesstimation) is for me to watch a bunch of new movies (or ones that I haven’t seen many times) from the chosen monthly GG genre in order to expand my knowledge of movies within that particular genre.

This month’s genre has been chosen by Aaron Neuwirth of the Code is Zeek and we will be reviewing our favorite Horror-Comedy Films.

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Feb by sending them to scaryfunnyaaron@movierob.net

Try to think out of the box! Great choice Aaron!

Let’s see if I felt that this movie would be worthy of being in the company of my others favorite movies in the genre of Horror-Comedy Films……

“The world is perfect. Appreciate the details.” – Dean

Number of Times Seen – 1 (2 Feb 2021)

Brief Synopsis – A small town is overtaken by Zombies and the local police are the only hope.

My Take on it – I decided that in order to make my guest choices of the Genre for the Genre Grandeur series more personal (and expand my own personal horizons of these genres), I will take a recommendation from my guest for a film to watch for this Genre Guesstimation series.

This movie was Aaron’s choice for me to watch.

I had never heard about this film before Aaron suggested that I watch this film.

The cast is superb and is filled with so many talented actors.

Love the way that no one is safe and that helps raise the stakes of things so high as things unfold.

Some of the familiar actors have very short scenes while others are spared for much longer on film.

The characters are all quite unique and eccentric in the way that they act which adds so much to things.

The film knows not to take itself seriously and they constantly break the fourth wall at points where one never expects it which helps make things more enjoyable to watch progress.

The pop art references of the story are great and add so much to things.

The plot itself isn’t very innovative or new to the Zombie genre, but their perspective on things helps make it even more entertaining to watch despite this.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – When the three cops are driving down the road toward the cemetery, Adam Driver’s character leans out the window with a machete to cut off the head of one particular zombie. This zombie is dressed in the same clothes and with the same hair as Bill Murray’s character in the 2009 zom-com Zombieland. (From IMDB)

Genre Grandeur Worthy? – Not really. Fun film, but far from being perfect.

Rating – BAFTA Worthy (6/10)
